Well, I would like the record to show that we started this project in 2000, that is BEFORE the BMW M Registry was created. So we were first
Also, the BMW M Registry does not list all M5 VINs and actual colour/date, they let the owners list their cars with guidance of the VIN. Two different things really. I dont care so much about who the owner is, just VINs and if the car is alive or not The cars will shift owners many times. You cannot keep record of that.
On the BMW M Registry you will find cars that are already wrecked and you can also find the same car twice (different owners).
The BMW M Registry will NEVER have as many cars listed as we do. We have over 700 3.8s and the M Registry has not even 100.
The BMW M Registry has also copied information from our site about the colours. They had wrong informations before and they still have:
"HD91: European-spec S38 B36 sedan (LHD), 09/88 through 04/92"
= not correct. Production (1st VIN = 2899501) started on 11.04.1988
"HD92: European-spec S38 B36 sedan (RHD), 11/89 through 11/91"
= not correct. Production (1st VIN = GA25000) started on 02.10.1989
"HD93: North American-spec S38 B36 sedan (LHD), 12/89 through 04/93"
= start 9/89
"HC91: European-spec S38 B38 sedan (LHD), 12/91 through 07/95"
= start 7/91
"ECE 3.8 sedan six-speed (RHD): 139 produced"
= not correct. The number should be 138.
"All 3.6-liter M5s (with the exception of North American-spec 1993 models) are equipped with 8x17-inch M System I wheels carrying 235/45ZR17 tires"
= not correct. The Naghi versions for Saudi-Arabia had M-system II wheels as well (which he should know).
"Starting with the production of the 3.8-liter model, the E34 M5 could be ordered (in most markets) with aerodynamic M rear-view mirrors"
= not completely correct. Was not available until 12/92. In 10/92 the 20 Jahre had them (Individual order). First car with M-tech mirrors were sold to Switzerland and built in 1993-01-28.
"1990 have a fixed rear center console that effectively makes them four-seaters. This console became optional in most markets starting with September, 1990 production"
= not correct. First optional M-tech rearseat was built in 4/1990.
"There were five different factory steering wheels available on the E34 M5"
= nope. There were six available (708, 240, 240 with stripes, 255 94 version, 255 95 version and 710 M airbag).
"Beginning with the 1994 model year (09/93 production)"
= 8/93
There are still a lot of faults in the "Color and Upholstery Selections" as well. Would take too long to list everything.
So, I dont trust the BMW M Registry
